Administratively housed within the Durham City Government’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, with funding provided by the Durham County Government, the Durham Cultural Master Plan Advisory Board is jointly appointed by the Durham County Board of Commissioners and the Durham City Council, and reports to both bodies. Its purpose is to implement the Cultural Master Plan approved in 2004 by the two local governments.

Durham’s rich history of cultural institutions and arts innovation has been one of the driving forces in establishing Durham as a nationally recognized center for the arts and one of the most livable counties and cities in the United States.

The Cultural Master Plan builds on this rich history to encourage and support the creativity and cultural diversity of Durham and its people and institutions.
