Tobacco and E.J. Parrish
Named for tobacco tycoon E.J. Parrish and his father, Parrish Street was the site of his expansive 1879 warehouse. Early tobacco entrepreneurs Parrish, James B. Duke, Julian Carr, John Green, and W.T. Blackwell transformed Durham's business landscape.
A Black Capital for the World to See
The North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, Mechanics and Farmers Bank, the Mutual Building and Loan Association and North Carolina College were model financial and educational institutions devoted to entrepreneurship and self-help in Durham.
Visionary Leadership in the New South
Building upon positive race relations, black leaders John Merrick, J. A. Dodson, R.B. Fitzgerald, J.R. Hawkins, A.M. Moore, W.G. Pearson, J. E. Shepard, C.C. Spaulding, G.W. Stephens, and S.L. Warren created successful business, educational and cultural institutions in Durham.
New Project Office Opens on Parrish
Street
The City of Durham and the Parrish Street Advocacy
Group are proud to announce the opening of a new Parrish Street Project
Office space at the corner of Mangum and Parrish Streets in the heart
of downtown Durham.
This new visible storefront location
is being shared with Preservation Durham (formerly the Historic Preservation
Society of Durham), a vital partner in the commemoration of Durham's
"Black Wall Street" history.
This site will serve as
the location for programs, events, and exhibits related to the Parrish
Street Project as well as the history of Durham. Stop by today to
visit, pick up literature, and learn more about the past and future
of Parrish Street.

Monthly Meetings
The Parrish Street Advocacy Group (PSAG) meets on the third Tuesday of every other month from 11:30am -12:30pm. The 2008 meeting calendar is as follows:

The PSAG Economic Development Committee meets on the second Thursday of every month from 11:30am-12:30pm. The meeting days are:
