Message from the Chief:

The men and women of the Durham Fire Department remain committed to protecting the citizens of Durham from the adverse effects of man-made and natural catastrophic events and disasters. We provide high-level response to emergency medical service needs by providing initial patient care and assessment for medical and trauma related emergencies. In addition, the department is collaborating with the Durham Public Schools to become more involved in the lives of Durham’s youth through reading and mentoring programs.

Our Mission

The Durham Fire Department functions to protect and prevent loss of life and property due to fires, medical emergencies, and/or exposure to dangerous conditions created by man or nature. The department offers fire education and suppression programs, enforces state and City fire codes, investigates arson and the causes of fires, provides basic training skills to recruits and in-service personnel, and conducts preventive fire maintenance programs to ensure equipment is dependable and efficient.
