City of Durham Economic Stimulus Information

In an effort to address the country’s economic crisis, President Barack Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in February 2009. This legislation is commonly referred to as "The Economic Stimulus Bill" and includes $787 billion for various initiatives that are designed to stimulate the economy by preserving and creating jobs. The $787 billion includes funding for education and training, healthcare, infrastructure and science, and energy, as well as tax relief efforts that benefit states, municipalities and individuals.

President Obama has committed to maintaining transparency and accountability and has established a Web site to provide more detailed information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The State of North Carolina will benefit from stimulus funding and has also created a Web site. The City of Durham is working to ensure its citizens have access to all potential funding. To that end, an Economic Stimulus Task Force has been created to coordinate stimulus funding activities and resources. Each City department is represented on the task force.
