The newly renovated Holton Middle School, located at 401 North Driver Street, will reopen with the new school year as the Holton Career and Resource Center (HCRC). Besides the striking physical improvements, the most exciting aspect of this project is the incredible variety of features and opportunities it will offer community members. The HCRC aims to provide education, health, and recreational benefits to citizens of Durham, particularly those in the local Northeast Central Durham community. It will do so through the partnership of Durham Public Schools, Duke University Medical Center, and the City of Durham Department of Parks and Recreation. Each will have a presence on one of the building’s three floors. The grand opening is scheduled for August 18, but for now, here is a brief preview of the center.
Small business and entrepreneurship cources
Classes on business education and computer engineering
Barbering
ABE classes
Visualization and modeling
Basketball court with new hardwood floor and restored bleachers
Outdoor fields
Dance studio and music room
Duke Medicine will operate a health clinic in the HCRC in conjunction with Lincoln Community Health Center
Other features of the Center include a media center, a senior center, a teen center, and space for local PAC meetings. The old auditorium has been redone but still includes the original seats.
