Youth After School Programs


DPR has a Sliding Fee Scale

DPR has a sliding fee scale for its after school, intersession and summer camp programs. See the link for the sliding fee scale application packet below. For information, call (919) 560-4355.

Applicants who do not qualify for the Sliding Fee Scale and are required to pay 100 percent of the associated fees. DPR offers a multiple child discount.

DPR's After School Programs

Durham Parks and Recreation After School Programs are for youth ages 5-12 (at Holton Career and Resource Center, ages 6-12). Activities include homework assistance, arts and crafts, computer class, environmental education and more. Teen after school is available at Walltown Park Recreation Center for ages 13-16 and Holton Career and Resource Center for ages 13-17.

Registration is ongoing at the center of your choice.

Monday - Friday, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

CRPC $30, CRNPC $33, NCRPC $40, NCRNPC $43
Prices are per week. Sliding fee scale is available.

Schedule - Follows either year-round or traditional school calendar depending on the site. See below.

Inclusion services are available for children with disabilities so they can fully participate in all programs and events; Discover After School is for children and youth with disabilities who need a specialized program; and Explore Teen After School is for teens and young adults with disabilities who are working on pre-vocational skills.

Eno Explorations is a two-day after school program (Tues. and Thurs., 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.) for ages 6-12 at West Point on the Eno Park, 5101 N. Roxboro Rd. Program focus is on exploration and education about the natural environment of West Point on the Eno and the City of Durham. Cost: $12-18. (919) 471-1623.

Special Programs/Inclusion

Inclusion After School (Ages 5-12)

The Special Programs/Inclusion unit now offers inclusion after school services, intersession and fun days opportunities for children ages 5-12 through providing an inclusion specialist or sign language interpreter during intersession hours. Inclusion is when everyone, children and adults, with and without disabilities, participate side by side in recreation programs and events. Inclusion services are available at all recreation centers.

Discover After School Program (Ages 5-21)

Designed for youth and teens ages 5-21, this alternative to inclusion promotes the development of participants' life skills through group activities and exposure to diverse athletic, creative and educational experiences. If you believe "inclusion" is not the best option for your child, or if he/she is older than 15 (the maximum for inclusion in other programs), we welcome you to register for the Discover After School Program.

Explore After School (Ages 13-21)

Designed for ages 13-21, this alternative to inclusion promotes the development of participants' life skills through group activities and exposure to diverse athletic, creative and educational experiences. If you believe "inclusion" is not the best option for your child, or if he/she is older than 15 (the maximum for inclusion in other programs), we welcome you to register for Explore After School.
