Youth After School Programs


DPR has a Sliding Fee Scale

DPR has a sliding fee scale for its after school, intersession and summer camp programs. This fee scale went into effect with the 2005 summer camp programs. Applicants who do not qualify for the Sliding Fee Scale and are required to pay 100 percent of the associated fees. DPR offers a multiple child discount.

DPR’s After School Programs

Activities include homework assistance, arts and crafts, computer classes, environmental sciences and much more. Snack is provided.

Registration (Year Round and Traditional School)

Begins June 23, 2008 and is ongoing. Call the recreation center of your choice for more information.

After School Begins

Year Round Schools – July 14, 2008
Traditional Schools – August 25, 2008

Youth After School Program (Ages 5-12)

$25 per week CR; $30 per week NCR
Monday - Friday, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
The following sites operate after school programs based on the Durham Public Schools year round (providing programs during intersession breaks) and traditional school calendar.

The following sites operate after school programs based on the Durham Public Schools’ traditional school calendar:

Special Programs/Inclusion

Inclusion After School (Agues 5-12)

The Special Programs/Inclusion unit now offers inclusion after school services, intersession and fun days opportunities for children ages 5-12 through providing an inclusion specialist or sign language interpreter during intersession hours. Inclusion is when everyone, children and adults, with and without disabilities, participate side by side in recreation programs and events. Inclusion services are available at all recreation centers.

To register for these services, please contact the recreation center listed above and mention your interest in or need of an inclusion specialist. Please contact Kristen Randall, 560-1301 (for Edison Johnson or Walltown Recreation Centers) Whitney Watts or Kim Digsby, 560-4292 (Irwin R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center or W.D. Hill Recreation Center) or Kendrick Vann, 560-4288 (for all other recreation centers) at least 48 hours in advance to discuss your specific needs.

Discover After School Program (Ages 5-21)

CR: 25, NCR: $30
Monday - Friday, August 25 - June 10 (2:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
Designed for youth and teens ages 5-21, this alternative to inclusion promotes the development of participants’ life skills through group activities and exposure to diverse athletic, creative and educational experiences. If you believe "inclusion" is not the best option for your child, or if he/she is older than 15 (the maximum for inclusion in other programs), we welcome you to register for the Discover After School Program.

Explore After School (Ages 13-21)

CR: $25, NCR: $30
Monday - Friday, August 25 - June 10 (2:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
Designed for ages 13-21, this alternative to inclusion promotes the development of participants’ life skills through group activities and exposure to diverse athletic, creative and educational experiences. If you believe "inclusion" is not the best option for your child, or if he/she is older than 15 (the maximum for inclusion in other programs), we welcome you to register for Explore After School.
