The Durham City-County Appearance Commission is made up of 15 members, seven appointed by the City Council and eight appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The commission meets the third Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in Conference Room GA on the ground floor of City Hall and its meetings are open to the public. Its mission is to CULTIVATE excellence in design, preservation and stewardship of the natural and built environment, to COMMUNICATE the economic, social, and aesthetic value of good design and planning, and to CELEBRATE exemplary design within the community.
Members shall reside within the jurisdiction of the appointing authority. City and County taxes must not reflect any delinquency at the time of submission of the application. While encouraging applicants with expertise in aesthetics, attempts shall also be made to assure that the appointments represent a cross section of the community. Members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for expenses.
The commission has two committees (Executive and Project Review). The Executive Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 8 a.m. in Conference Room GA on the ground floor of City Hall.
