The Harvard Avenue Street Improvement Project extends Harvard Avenue from South Benjamine Street to Miami Boulevard. The project was then advertised on March 10, 2010, and bids opened on April 7, 2010. Triangle Grading and Paving, Inc. of Burlington submitted the lowest bid of $487,962.27. City Council awarded the contract to Triangle on May 17 and construction began on August 10, 2010.
The project consists of clearing and grubbing, grading, paving, curb and gutter, storm drainage, water and sewer construction, and the installation of water quality devices. The project was divided into three phases to help maintain access by residents to their homes.
Phase 1 of the project was nearly completed before the winter shut down in late 2010. During this phase, the contractor installed new concrete curb and gutter, storm drainage, installed water and sewer services, constructed wing walls for the existing concrete culvert, installed several water quality devices, and constructed the stone bedding in preparation for the asphalt pavement.
On March 7, 2011, work began again on the project with an anticipated completion date of August 2011. The first task now is to complete the storm drainage work and set the stone base. The contractor plans to pave this section during the week of March 14-18 depending on favorable weather conditions. Once Phase 1 has been paved, it will be opened for traffic and Phase 2 will be closed to traffic and Triangle will begin work on this section.
