The Office of Public Affairs is responsible for airing Durham government programming on Time Warner Cable channel 8. Currently this channel is shared by City Government and County Government.

FCC Digital Television in 2009

The FCC's requirement that all broadcast television stations switch to a digital signal by February 17, 2009 does not affect government programming or public access programming because channel 8 is a Time Warner Cable channel via cable television service. City Government Programs

The Office of Public Affairs produces "CityLife," which airs Monday through Saturday on Time Warner Cable channel 8 - Monday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The show features information on current City issues and upcoming events that affect the lives of Durham citizens.

The office also produces "City Hall This Week," a program dedicated to informing Durham residents and City employees about what is going on inside Durham's City Hall. Each edition is taped on the first and third Tuesday of the month - the day after City Council meetings. It airs twice daily Monday through Saturday on Time Warner Cable channel 8 through the week of the next City Council meeting. The focus of this program is to publicize action taken on high-profile issues at City Council meetings, as well as serving as a resource about other City matters. "City Hall This Week" airtimes are:

  • Mondays: 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Fridays: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The City also provides City government employment listings and other important announcements during the government programming time blocks.
