



The Mayor’s Summer Youth Work Program offers Durham youth the opportunity to gain work experience and develop skills while connecting with City and County jobs, and in various businesses around The City of Durham. The program operates through partnerships with The Durham Chamber of Commerce, Durham Technical and Community College and contributions from Biogen Idec, Durham Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A of Hillsborough Road, Duke University Medical Center, Hadenstanziale, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, American Safety Products, NC Mutual Life, Cormetech and Scana. Previous summer opportunities have been available in: Durham Parks and Recreation, Economic and Workforce Development, Neighborhood Improvement Services, Human Resources, General Services, Public Works, Solid Waste and The Division of Storm Water services. Private sector positions are also available through partnerships with North Carolina Central University, Durham Technical Community College, the Durham County Criminal Justice Center, Human Resources, Tax Office and General Services.
Students prepare for the annual Mayor’s Summer Youth Job Fair by attending job readiness workshops (to be announced). Upon employment offers students attend "So you hired, now what?" soft skills training sponsored by Durham Technical Community College for the first week of employment.
Applications become available on the second week of February online, in the DPS High Schools and the public libraries.
