State of Durham's Economy Breakfast Set for Dec. 9

Event Highlights Economic Performance Throughout Past Year; Advance Tickets Now Available

Durham, N.C. – Citizens interested in an update on Durham’s economic performance in 2008 should mark their calendars now for the 11th Annual State of Durham’s Economy Breakfast, to be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Durham Civic Center, located at 201 Foster Street in downtown Durham.

The breakfast is the City’s premiere annual event, discussing issues such as employment, tax base growth, construction activity, retail sales, commercial real estate markets, downtown growth, quality of life, crime, visitor impacts, education, wages, and workforce and business development. This year’s event will also highlight both Durham’s position in the region and, according to an October 14, 2008 report in Business Week, why the current state of Durham’s economy makes it “the third best city in America for riding out a recession.”

The event is sponsored by the City of Durham’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), in collaboration with the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Durham, Inc., Durham County Government, Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Duke Energy.

For inquiries about registration,  e-mail Emma Robinson with the City’s OEWD at emma.robinson@durhamnc.gov.  Tickets purchased prior to November 28 cost $45 each or $360 for a table of eight.  After November 28, tickets will be $60 each or $480 for a table of eight.
