Fast Facts:
• The City’s Departments of Public Works and Transportation are ready to present the proposed right-of-way plans for the realignment of Riddle Road and the widening of Fayetteville Street at Buxton Drive. According to City staff, the existing roadway configuration at the intersection of Fayetteville Street, Buxton Drive, and Riddle Road does not operate efficiently under current traffic volumes and will only worsen as traffic increases in the coming years.
• In order to address this issue, the departments have been working with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. on a traffic study as well as design plans for the project. The project will include roadway construction and signal upgrades at the Fayetteville Street, Buxton Drive, and Riddle Road intersection as well as at the crossing of the American Tobacco Trail at Riddle Road.
• The right-of-way plans propose to realign Riddle Road to the north to create a traditional four-way intersection. Additional through and turn lanes will be added to Fayetteville Street, Buxton Drive, and Riddle Road to accommodate increased traffic through 2030.
• City staff will be on hand to discuss the project, the impact to property owners within the project corridor, the project timeline, and answer any additional questions.
• Additional information, including project maps of the proposed construction, is available on the City’s Web site at http://www.durhamnc.gov/departments/works/fay_buxton_riddle_realignment.cfm.
• For additional information, contact Tim Jackson, project manager with the City’s Department of Public Works, at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30255 or via e-mail at Tim.Jackson@durhamnc.gov.
• The City will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Jackson as early as possible so that arrangements can be made accordingly.
