Once recruits graduate from the Durham Police Academy, they must successfully complete a rigorous on-the-job training cycle called the Durham Police Training Officer (PTO) Program.
Purpose
The Durham PTO Program teaches essential critical thinking skills through intensive problem-based learning techniques. Recruits are taught to utilize both internal and external resources in the community to resolve real-life problems. This process allows recruits to develop fresh new ideas for innovative policing strategies and results in well-prepared, confident and highly competent police officers.
