Meriwether Drive Bicycle Improvements

Meriwether Drive is currently 34' wide, and has two 17' travel lanes. It has a speed limit of 35mph, and is a high-use transit corridor. The proposed improvement for this section is to stripe bike lanes and narrow the travel lanes. It will link Old Oxford Road to Carver Street, which will have bicycle facilities.

This bicycle improvement project is funded by a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program Grant through NCDOT.

The current and proposed cross-section can be found below, and the full design can be viewed here. Comments received during the September 2018 public meeting and online comment period will be incorporated where appropriate.

The re-striping work is expected to begin Fall 2023 and end Summer 2024.
