National Crime Prevention Month (October)

The Durham Police Department and the Community Resource Unit observe National Crime Prevention Month in October each year by hosting a variety of special events and crime prevention campaigns during the month.  Events aim to encourage police and community interaction year-round and support of  police department crime prevention efforts.

Typical DPD National Crime Prevention Month events and activities include:

  • Coffee with a Cop
  • Police vs. Seniors Olympic Challenge
  • Tip-a –Cop (NC Special Olympics FUNdraiser)
  • Trunk-or-Treat/ Halloween Safety Outreach
  • Citizen Police Academy Graduation
  • Crime prevention information tables at retail centers
  • Presentations by request of community groups.
