STREAM VEGETATION MANAGEMENT

SP-2022-01

Project Description

A riparian zone is the area next to a stream that includes the floodplain and plant "buffer".  A buffer of trees and bushes filters polluted runoff, helping to keep the stream water clean. Buffers also provide habitat and help keep streams cool.

The City of Durham manages riparian buffer zones that are part of a stream restoration or stormwater project.  Some of these areas are protected by a conservation easement that requires the City to maintain the buffers. This contract will provide vegetation management within conservation easements.
