Timeline
The At-Large City Council vacancy appointment process will proceed with the following timeline. All meetings and work sessions will be available for the public to watch virtually.
- Friday, March 11–Friday, March 25: Applications accepted through March 25 at 5 p.m.
- Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m.: City Council identifies finalists for appointment consideration during its regularly-scheduled Work Session.
- Monday, May 2 at 3 p.m.: City Council interviews finalists at a special meeting in City Hall Council Chambers. Watch the interviews.
- Tuesday, May 3 at 6 p.m.: City Council will conduct a public comment period during a special meeting in City Hall Council Chambers. Watch the public comments.
- Thursday, May 5 at 1 p.m.: City Council will make its final selection during its regularly-scheduled Work Session.
- Week of May 9: The City Clerk will arrange the oath of office in City Hall Council Chambers.
How to Watch Meetings and Work Sessions
The May 2 and May 3 Special Meetings will be livestreamed on City’s website; on the City's YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter channels; on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV through the free Boxcast app; and televised live on Durham Television Network (Spectrum channel 8, Frontier channel 70, and AT&T U-verse channel 99).
Finalists
The following four finalists will move forward to interview for the At-Large City Council vacancy. The finalists were decided based on those who received a majority vote of at least four votes from the Council.
DURHAM CITY COUNCIL NOTICE OF AT-LARGE COUNCIL SEAT VACANCY
Application Period: March 11, 2022 - March 25, 2022, 5 p.m.
The Durham City Council is accepting applications to fill the At-Large Council Seat for the unexpired term of former City Council Member Charlie Reece, who resigned from the Durham City Council to relocate with his family outside of Durham. Candidates for the position must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Live within the corporate city limits of Durham
- Be a registered voter within the City of Durham
- Be current on City and County taxes at the time of application submission

The deadline to receive applications with completed questionnaires by electronic or hardcopy, is close of business Friday, March 25, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Periodo para la presentación de candidatura: del 11 hasta el 25 de marzo de 2022
Entre el 11 y el 25 de marzo de 2022, el concejo de la ciudad de Durham recibirá solicitudes de candidatura para ocupar el cargo de concejal en general que representa a toda la ciudad para el periodo restante del ex-concejal Charlie Reece, quien renunció al concejo de la ciudad ya que se marcha con su familia de Durham.
