A building permit is required to place or build an accessory structure (e.g. storage building, detached carport, garage, pool house, etc.) on your property.
In all cases, before securing a site for a charter school, contact the Inspections Department. If adequate planning is completed, the process will flow smoothly and children will not have to be relocated from the facility in order to comply with the regulations.
Currently, no permit is required to build fences or walls (retaining walls do require a permit) within Durham City or County Limits, unless the property is located in a designated flood plain.
If you are considering opening a summer day camp, it is recommended that you consult with the City/County Planning Department, 919-560-4137, to determine if there are any special requirements for the property location use.
