Expand Outreach to Non-English Speakers

The City of Durham is committed to providing meaningful access to city services and resources for Durham residents who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) or who don't speak English.

Positioned in the Strategic Plan Goal 3: Connected, Engaged, & Diverse Communities - The City of Durham adopted a Language Access Plan in 2019 to better serve the community and make our city a more welcoming and inclusive place to live, work, and play for all. Currently, our largest LEP population is Spanish, and through interpretation and translation services, we can advance meaningful access to City services and information.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE?
  • Increase employee awareness and understanding of the Language Access Plan, the City’s available language services, and resources
  • Improve the provision of language services to LEP speakers
  • Raise community awareness of the city's language access efforts
