Background:
The Horton Road Pedestrian Improvements project is a part of the Better Bus Project's Access to Transit project. It aims to address pedestrian safety and transit improvements along Horton Road, specifically between Sugarwood Place and Guess Road. This project is unrelated to pedestrian improvements on the east side of Guess Road.

Schedule:
• Design: Summer 2023 to Spring 2024
• Real Estate: Winter 2023 to Spring 2024 (Note: Real Estate activities have historically taken more than one year to complete)
• Construction: Fall 2025 to the end of 2025
Scope:
• Sidewalk connections, pedestrian crosswalks, a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) Pedestrian Crosswalk System, connections to existing improvements, landscaping and irrigation, identification of required right-of-way and easements, and a traffic management plan to ensure safe passage for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists during construction.
• Complete pedestrian and bus stop improvement plans, adhering to specifications provided by GoTriangle and complying with Durham City/County codes, Special Use Permit criteria, ADA guidelines, the AASHTO "Guide for Geometric Design of Transit Facilities on Highways and Streets," and any other necessary permits or approvals for construction.
