Project Description
This is a project being performed by a consulting engineering firm, Horvath Associates, PLLC. The purpose of the project is to provide functional design information for bicycle and pedestrian facilities along the following roadway corridors:
  • Morreene Road - Erwin Road to Neal Road
    Estimated Length: 1.5 miles
  • Carpenter-Fletcher Road - Woodcroft Parkway to Alston
    Estimated Length: 0.8 miles
  • Cornwallis Road - South Roxboro Street to Chapel Hill Road
    Estimated Length: 1.2 miles
  • Hillandale Road - I-85 to NC-147
    Estimated Length: 1.1 miles
Both the DurhamWalks! Pedestrian Plan and the Durham Comprehensive Bicycle Transportation Plan, adopted in 2006, call for pedestrian and bicycle improvements to these corridors. The project purpose does not include road widening to expand the traffic capacity of the corridors or intersections within the corridors.

Functional Design Project
The information provided by the functional design project for each street is listed below:
  • Cost estimates
  • Future construction phasing
  • Permit requirements
  • Property Information for each lot including:
    • Acquisitions required
    • Construction Impact
    • Easement requirements
  • Recommended Improvements for bike lanes and sidewalks
  • Topographic Corridor Maps which include but not limited to the following design data:
    • Field surveyed topography
    • Property lines and corners
    • Roadway pavement and driveways
    • Stream buffers and floodplain limits
    • Streams drainage systems, ditches and culverts
    • Trees and landscaping
    • Utilities both above and below ground
Neighborhood & Public Review Meetings
Much of the of the work has been completed by the consultant and a series of meetings, one for each each street, have been scheduled to review the recommended improvements with the neighborhoods and public.

There will not be a formal presentation at the meetings. The meeting format is causal and staff will be on-hand to discuss the proposed improvements and impacts, if any, to the properties within the project limits for each street. The meetings will occur at the following locations for each of the streets:
  • Carpenter Fletcher:
