Ninth Street is open with street parking available.
Ninth Street streetscape improvement project is a public-private
redevelopment project that seeks to address infrastructure challenges
along Ninth Street. This joint project between the City of Durham and
CPGI Regency LLC is designed to support the development of commercial
retail/mixed used developments and to enhance the visual appeal of the
Ninth Street commercial corridor. The limits of the project are from
Main Street to Markham Street.
Project parameters in the street right of way include:
Concrete curbs, gutters and drive aprons
Concrete sidewalks, street furniture, and updated trash receptacles on both sides of Ninth Street
Decorative historic-style street lighting
Handicap accessibility ramps per Americans With Disabilities Act standards
Street milling and striping
All existing on street parking is available on the east side of the
street. Between 50% - 70% of parking is available on the west side of
the street. The city parking lot also remains available. Businesses
along Ninth Street remain accessible and open for business.
The project is divided into 4 phases;
Phase A - Safeway Street to 1st driveway of public parking lot
Phase B - 1st driveway of public parking lot to 2nd driveway of public parking lot
Phase C - 2nd driveway of public parking lot to Wachovia Bank driveway
Phase D - Wachovia Bank driveway to Main Street
Phase A & B
Phase A and B are open to parking and sidewalk use. Milling and paving complete. Only benches, trash cans, and punch list items remain.
Curb and gutter is complete, sidewalk is installed, milling and paving is complete. Need to finish light fixture installation and subsequent brick pavers. Anticipating a November 21, 2014 completion depending upon weather this coming week.
All work should be completed by December 12, 2014.
