The department is now accepting online applications for its In-Person Community Police Academy that will run April 4, 2023 to May 11, 2023. See details below. |
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Community Police Academy is the premier program for those wanting to know more about the operations of the Durham Police Department.
As is feasible during the year, either virtual or in-person academies may be offered. These academies provide first-hand knowledge and front-line experiences. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about various divisions, such as Criminal Investigations and Forensics. Also, various hands-on activities such as the use of force simulator, will give participants the opportunity to be in the shoes of a police officer. The program begins with students meeting members of the executive command staff and concludes with a graduation ceremony for all students who meet the attendance requirements.
Open to:
- Durham County residents (ages 16 and up)
- Durham business owners
