Landscape Services

About the Division


The Landscape Services Division provides services to enhance and maintain the entryways into the City, City streets, public spaces, parks, and trails. The division provides horticultural services, landscape installation, and turf management. The division creates and maintains landscaping along city streets, parks, playgrounds, tennis courts, athletic fields, and paved trails.  Landscape Services is also responsible for maintaining civic spaces and plazas in downtown Durham, along with providing personnel for setting up special events held throughout the year.

MISSION STATEMENT


The mission of Landscape Services is to enhance and maintain the City's public spaces, parks, greenways, and trails.

Horticulture & Landscaping


These crews concentrate on enhancing the aesthetic value of our public spaces. They install, mulch, weed, and irrigate, shrubs, seasonal plantings, and perennial beds. Special attention is given to the 12-block area of Downtown that includes pocket parks, plazas, courts, and other civic spaces.
 

Turf Management


These crews provide maintenance of grassed areas including, play meadows, and along rights-of-way. They manage vegetation growth in designated naturalized areas in parks, stream buffers, and along trails.
