Durham Police Department’s (DPD) Police Athletic League (PAL) will hold the final soccer games of the season on Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St., Durham.
The theme for the final day of soccer is “Social Media Day with PAL.” DPD is inviting residents to attend and support the young athletes. Those in attendance are encouraged to use their smart phones to take action photos of the athletes during the games and share the photos on their various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – using the hashtag #DurhamPAL.
Social media users can follow DPD on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for every day communications, alerts, advisories, crime prevention tips, road closures, and more. DPD also utilizes Nextdoor for neighborhood alerts and crime information.
Information about the DPD Police Athletic League
DPD’s 2017 PAL Soccer League consists of more than 300 elementary school students from 17 Durham schools. This season 15 police officers and four non-sworn employees are participating in PAL soccer as coaches or support staff.
Implemented in 2010 as a crime prevention initiative in North East Central Durham (NECD), PAL utilizes athletics and other activities to foster and maintain mentoring relationships between police officers and youth (and their families).
Durham schools are invited to participate at no cost to the students. The police department provides jerseys for the teams; officials to referee the games; the game facility; police staff to oversee the league; and volunteer support including coaches, score keepers and concessions.
