Section of W. Main St. to Close Feb. 22 for Major Water Main Repair

DURHAM, N.C. – Repairs to two major water lines will require the City of Durham Department of Water Management to close a section of West Main Street between North Buchanan Boulevard and Broad Street beginning Thursday, February 22, weather permitting. The street is expected to remain closed for at least a week while the City’s contractor makes necessary repairs. Traffic detour signage will be posted in the area throughout this required closure.

On Friday, February 9, Water Management crews investigated a reported water main leak to determine the scope of the issue. Due to the size of the lines, the difficult location, and the type of equipment and materials needed, the City will be using a contractor to complete the repair. During this work, temporary water service connections will be made for customers in the area while the main line is repaired. Prior to the February 22 closure, the intersection of Iredell Street and West Main Street will close for the day on Monday, February 19 while workers switch over these connections. Customers may experience minor fluctuations in water pressure during this time; however, service disruptions are not planned. Traffic control will remain in place at all times during this project.
