Durham police are investigating a triple drowning that happened early Tuesday in a swimming pool at Chapel Towers Apartments at 1315 Morreene Road.
Officers were dispatched to the apartment complex shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday and discovered three unresponsive people – two males and one female – in the pool. Officers and three men who offered their assistance performed CPR on the victims until Durham County EMS and the Durham County Fire Department arrived on the scene. The three victims – Abril Yuliana Flores-Ojeda, 15, Brian Manuel Benites, 16, and Luis Enrique Delgado-Romero, 21, all of Durham – were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The three drowning victims did not live at Chapel Tower Apartments.
There does not appear to be any foul play involved, according to a preliminary investigation. There is also no sign at this time that the victims were electrocuted. The investigation is ongoing.
