Two People Arrested on Fraud Charges
Durham police investigators filed more than 70 charges against a man and a woman accused of defrauding and taking advantage of an elderly disabled couple.
Emily Anne Worst, 29, was arrested on more than 50 charges and Sean Cruz Conway, 24, was arrested on 20 charges this week.
Worst was hired in March to be a caretaker for the couple. Investigators charged Worst with stealing items such as cash and towels from the couple’s home and using the couple’s debit card to make purchases at numerous locations throughout Durham from April to June. Conway, who investigators said is Worst’s boyfriend, is also accused of using the stolen credit cards to make purchases. Worst is also accused of making a duplicate copy of the key to the couple’s vehicle so she could use the vehicle without their permission.
Worst and Conway were arrested on multiple counts of felony conspiracy, financial card theft, identity theft, obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods. Worst is also charged with felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Worst is in Durham County Jail under a $25,000 bond and Conway was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
