Durham Police Investigating Traffic Fatality UPDATE: The driver of the Hyundai has been identified as Brooke Lyn Maynard, 24, of Durham. She was a detention officer with the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. DURHAM, N.C. - Durham police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that happened Thursday night in the intersection of Club Boulevard and North Duke Street. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly before 7:45 p.m. Durham Police Department officers attempted to initiate a stop of a grey 2007 Honda Accord that had been stolen at gunpoint. The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated near the intersection of Elizabeth and Ramseur Streets.
The vehicle traveled through the city and the suspects caused a collision with two other vehicles – a Chevy Impala and a Hyundai Sonata – in the intersection of Club Boulevard and N. Duke Street. The person driving the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people who were in the Chevy Impala were transported to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time. The two suspects occupying the stolen Honda Accord were transported to the hospital as well. No Durham Police Department vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Durham Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit and Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the crash. Officers from the Professional Standards Division are at the scene as well.
