Durham police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred around 6:30 a.m. today. It is not known if the two cases are related at this time.
The first shooting was reported at 6:29 a.m. A 44-year-old man was found shot in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the 500 block of Massey Avenue. He was shot in the head and taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
The second shooting was reported at 6:31a.m. A 44-year-old man told officers he was at the stop light at Fayetteville Street and Umstead Street when a man came up to his vehicle, demanded money and then shot him in the shoulder as the victim was driving away. The victim had given the suspect his wallet before he was shot. Officers found the victim at East Main Street and Queen Street. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
