The Durham Police Department is kicking off a new crime prevention social media campaign entitled the 9 p.m. routine, joining the movement created by the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
The goal is to cut down on easily preventable robberies and larcenies while interacting with DPD social media followers. Every night at 9 p.m. DPD will post safety messages to both Facebook and Twitter, reminding people to lock their homes and cars to help break the triangle of crime (desire, ability, opportunity). The hashtag #9pmroutine will accompany each post, and followers will be asked to interact with DPD by verifying when they’ve complied (locked their homes and cars).
DPD is asking followers to take part in the 9 p.m. routine and to spread the word.
