The City Clerk's Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:
Ashley Canady, Mayor's Council for Women
Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?
I would encourage people to be on a board, committee, and/or commission because there is so much work that needs to be done in the city. Residents have the opportunity to meet great people in Durham and be a part of a plan and some important decision making. The City gives you space to create ideas and come up with a plan for problem solving. I like to see what it takes to run a city.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?
What I enjoy the most is what everyone on the board does to try and work things out in the community. I have the opportunity to work with great women in creating change and implementing ideas and work for the women of Durham. I enjoy the ground work of listening sessions because I have the opportunity to learn about things that I didn’t know were going on in Durham.
What is your favorite part about living in Durham?
My favorite part of living in Durham is that there is so much to learn. There are a lot of people to meet in Durham and they are working to make Durham stronger and better every day.
