DPD Gun Arrests
In an effort to curb gun violence, investigators with the DPD’s Organized Crime Division continue to make gun arrests. Below is information about their recent gun-related arrests.
• Investigators from the Vice Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 117 West Cornwallis Road on Thursday. They seized five firearms (two handguns, two rifles and a shotgun). They also seized 14.4 grams of heroin (heroin trafficking levels start at four grams). Belgian Smith, 30, was arrested and charged with five counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, level 2 trafficking of heroin and two other felony drug charges. Smith was placed in Durham County Jail under a $350,000 bond.
• On August 28, Gang Unit investigators conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Lodge Street. The driver, 21-year-old Christina Bright, was found in possession of a Colt .380cal handgun and a Smith & Wesson .38cal revolver. She was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.
• On August 24, Gang Unit investigators conducted a traffic stop at Chapel Hill Road and Jackson Street. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and investigators seized a stolen Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun, 11.8 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Tyrone McNeil, 16, of Durham was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a concealed weapon and two drug charges. McNeil was taken before a magistrate who released him to a family member.
