The City Clerk's Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:
Steven Williams, Workforce Development Board
Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?
It helps you understand how the city/county governments work along with providing necessary volunteering efforts in this great community of ours.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?
The Workforce Development Board has allowed me growth as far as knowledge and opportunity to represent Durham on the state level. We were recognized as the model board by Congressman David Price during my tenure in executive leadership. Also, I’ve been able to meet several state representatives and discuss workforce development as far as our community. Lastly, helping the community reins high on my list as far as the major enjoyment that I’ve had serving on this board.
What is your favorite part about living in Durham?
I’ve lived here for over 40+ plus years and its diversity as well as evolution has made me proud to be called a “Durmite”. There are some issues which I personally changed as far as community engagement but for the most part Durham is the place that I call home.
