Durham Police Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
UPDATE: Durham police investigators have charged Martir Maldonado, 31, of Durham in connection with this case. Maldonado is not in custody at this time.
Maldonado is wanted on one count of felony hit-and-run involving serious injury or death and one count of failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

Durham police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened late Monday on U.S. 15-501 North near Cornwallis Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, Danielle Noel, 30, of Durham was standing behind her 2000 Chevrolet Blazer when she was struck by a 1998 maroon Honda Accord. The occupant(s) of the Honda Accord left the scene and have not been located at this time.
The initial investigation of the crash shows that the Blazer had experienced some type of mechanical failure and was stopped with its hazard lights activated in the right travel lane of northbound U.S. 15-501. Noel was standing behind the Blazer when the Accord struck her and then her vehicle, causing her to be pinned between the two vehicles. Noel was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Accord has not been identified at this time.
