Recruiting Unit to Hold Women in Law Enforcement Open House
DURHAM, N.C. – The Durham Police Department (DPD) Recruiting Unit is set to host a Women in Law Enforcement Open House on Saturday, March 14, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Durham Police Headquarters (602 E. Main Street). The event will feature insights from women police officers representing various ranks and units throughout the department. Persons interested in attending are encouraged to sign up by March 2 by completing online registration at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/durham-police-departments-women-in-law-enforcement-open-house-tickets-91665041607. Interested persons can also call the Recruiting Unit at (919) 560-4575 extension 29168.
DPD Recruiting Open House events are open to any adult person interested in learning more about pursuing a career as a police officer. The primary goal of the open house is to identify and inspire potential applicants to apply for the department’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy (BLET).
The Women in Law Enforcement Open House seeks to further “cultivate a diverse, engaged, and healthy workforce dedicated to public service,” as prioritized in the City of Durham’s FY 2019-21 Strategic Plan. Topics and program highlights will include career perspectives from police employees; employment opportunities with the department; and health and nutrition. The event is also a community engagement strategy to observe National Women’s History Month by highlighting the professional successes achieved by women in the Durham Police Department.
This is the third open house of its kind the DPD Recruiting Unit has held since 2013. Prior events were held in August 2013 and February 2017.
