Durham police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Thursday night on US70 HWY Bypass near Lynn Road.
The crash happened shortly after 8:30 pm on February 6, 2020 when a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Tegisti Kibrab Asfaha of Raleigh was traveling in the north bound lane of US 70 when its frontend collided with the right side rear quarter of unit 2, a 2003 Cadillac CTS which was also in the north bound lane of travel. Asfaha was transported to the Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Miguel Resendiz, an occupant of the Cadillac was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Duke Hospital where he was pronounced dead. There was a second unidentified occupant of the Cadillac that fled the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. There are no charges at this time. US 70 was closed for approximately 4 hours between Pleasant Drive and East End Avenue however it is now open.
