The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:
LeVon Barnes, Citizens Advisory Committee Chair
Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?
I would encourage someone to apply for our many boards, committees and commissions because your voice matters. Citizen participation is critical to Durham’s overall success.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?
I love being the chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee because not only is it the oldest board in Durham, but I feel we have a big impact on families who need the most help. The Citizens Advisory Committee tackles rapid re-housing and chronic homelessness by approving how federal dollars are spent among the many non-profits who are tackling this issue every day.
What is your favorite part about living in Durham?
My favorite part about living in Durham is thriving culture that is forming here. Durham is the new cultural melting pot of the south. I love the food, people, and the arts scene.
