The slight change in water taste and odor right now comes from the growth of seasonal algae. Your drinking water is safe to drink and use for other purposes. Staff are treating the source water at the lakes and reservoirs. The water coming from your tap should soon return to its typical odor-free, pleasant taste. In the meantime, if you chill water in a container in the refrigerator for a few hours, it should help remove any residual musty taste or odor.
We understand some people are very sensitive to changes in taste and odor and we apologize for the continuing inconvenience.
All of us at Water Management appreciate your input. Feedback from customers is one of several ways we track the success of our efforts to return Durham’s drinking water to its usual high quality. We thank you for your patience as we eliminate this seasonal algae from the lakes and reservoirs.
