Durham Police Investigating Serious Injury Traffic Crash
Durham police are investigating a traffic crash with critical injuries that happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. today in the 5900 block of Barbee Rd.
A 2019 Kia Sorento SUV was traveling north on the 6000 block of Barbee Rd. when it failed to maneuver around a bend in the road. It crossed over the center line, ran off the road left where it struck a covert and went airborne colliding with a utility pole and splitting it in half. The vehicle came down and it rolled over and rested after it collided with a pickup truck parked in the front yard of a house on the 5900 block of Barbee Rd.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Duke University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Power in the area was knocked out and Barbee Rd was shut down between Auburn Village Dr. and E. Woodcroft Parkway for hours to replace the power pole.
Speed and Alcohol are believed to be factors in this crash. No one has been charged at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
