Durham police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday night on Holloway Street at North Hyde Park Avenue.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. when an eastbound Honda Fit driven by Amado Lopez, 45, of Durham, turned left into the path of a westbound 2003 Honda CBR motorcycle driven by Raekwon Nixon, 24, of Durham. The front of the motorcycle collided with the front passenger side of Lopez’s vehicle as Lopez was turning left onto Hyde Park Avenue from Holloway Street.

Nixon was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Lopez fled the scene of the crash, according to investigators. His vehicle was located a short time later in the 900 block of North Hyde Park Avenue. Lopez surrendered a short time later and was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death. Lopez was placed in Durham County Jail under a $10,000 bond.

The crash remains under investigation.
