After 12 years of dedicated service to the City of Durham, City Manager Tom Bonfield has decided to retire effective September 30, 2020. City Manager Bonfield announced his retirement in a letter to Mayor Steve Schewel and the City Council on Sunday, August 2. The letter shares both personal and professional reasons for his decision. Bonfield has worked in public service for over 42 years including 12 years as the City Manager of Durham. In his letter he shared, "I am thankful and proud to have had the opportunity to be Durham’s City Manager. The past 12 years have been the most rewarding and enjoyable of my 42-year local government career. I am appreciative of the support I have enjoyed from elected officials, employees, and the community."
