[ARCHIVED] Durham Parks and Recreation Playgrounds Open For Play Today

Durham’s playgrounds will officially open for play on Friday, September 4, at 5 p.m. after months of being closed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Playgrounds will be open from dawn to dusk.

Following the announcement of the Safer-At-Home Order 2.5, which lifted restrictions on playgrounds, residents can enjoy more than 50 playgrounds nestled in Durham’s parks.

Over the past two days, Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) maintenance staff have been cleaning and disinfecting playground equipment in preparation for residents use.

Playground users are encouraged to maintain social distance, wear masks or face coverings when social distancing is not possible, and often wash or sanitize hands.

Residents can check out Durham’s newly replaced playground at Lakeview Park at 3500 Dearborn Drive.

Visit DPR’s website for a full list of playgrounds. Please note, the playground at W.D. Hill is currently closed for repairs.
