A Durham man was charged with felony hit-and-run following a traffic crash on Hebron Road that left one man seriously injured Monday night.
The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. on Hebron Road near Danube Lane when a 2010 Mazda 3 driven by Quintin Denzel McCorkle, 28, of Durham collided with a dirt bike operated by Kevin Rufus Nichols, 41, of Durham. McCorkle was driving west on Hebron Road when when his vehicle was struck in the left front fender by the right side of the dirt bike.
The dirt bike was not legal to be operated on a city street or highway, according to investigators. Nichols, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
McCorkle fled from the scene and was located a few miles away. He was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. He was also served with a 2020 warrant from Wake County charging him with unauthorized use of a vehicle and a warrant from Durham County charging him with failure to appear in court on a 2017 driving while impaired charge.
The crash is still under investigation.
