The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:
Terrick Willis, human relations commission
Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?
I would encourage individuals who truly have a passion for bringing positive change within their community to apply to be a board member. The boards, committees, and commissions provide an additional platform for like-minded individuals to truly resolve the issues that affect the citizens of Durham.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?
I was recently sworn in (December 2020) as a member of the Human Relations Committee Board, and what attracted me most to this board is the HRC’s main objective; which is to improve Human Relations among the citizens of Durham and every racial/ethnic group is represented. Being a board member will provide me additional leadership and responsibility not only amongst my peers, but my community as well.
What is your favorite part about living in Durham?
I’ve been in Durham since 2008 and what I enjoy most is the Culture, diverse backgrounds and the general respect that all citizens have among each other. Everyone is greeted with a smile and warm welcome into businesses and establishments. I have witnessed tremendous change and growth before my very eyes in the Bull City and I’m honored to be a part of it and continue to bring positive change!
