The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Staff Liaison Spotlight:
dale mckeel, durham bicycle and pedestrian advisory commission staff liaison
What board do you support?
I support the Durham Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC). BPAC is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2021 and is an advisory board appointed by the Durham City Council and the Durham County Commissioners. BPAC works to make Durham a more walkable, bikeable, and transit-friendly community for all residents. More information about BPAC is at https://durhamnc.gov/3851/
How long have you been with the City?
I have been working with the City for 14 years. I work as a transportation planner in the Department of Transportation, and primarily focus on bicycle and pedestrian issues.
How did you become a staff liaison and how long have you been a staff liaison?
I have served as staff liaison to BPAC for the entire 14 years that I have worked for the City. I knew that this would be part of my job responsibilities when I applied for and interviewed for my current position.
What do you enjoy most about being the staff liaison?
The thing I enjoy most is seeing the passion and energy that the members of BPAC bring to their work, and their commitment to working together to accomplish the mission of BPAC. Most BPAC members serve on a committee that meets once a month in addition to attending the monthly meeting of the full commission.
