American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement – Phase 1 Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

• Week of 8/16: 
  •   Lane closures and shifts in Chapel Hill Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street.
  •   Lane closures and shifts in Duke Street between Yancey Street and Pettigrew Street.
  •   Temporary closures of the Yancey / Duke and Jackson / Duke intersections on the west side of Duke Street.
  •   Lane closures and shifts in Gregson Street between Pettigrew Street and Chapel Hill Street.
• Week of 8/23: 
  •   Updated lane closures and shifts in Chapel Hill Street between Gregson Street and Pettigrew Street.
  •   A full closure of Chapel Hill Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street during overnight hours.
  •   Lane closures and shifts in Duke Street between Yancey Street and Pettigrew Street.
  •   Temporary closures of the Yancey / Duke and Jackson / Duke intersections on the west side of Duke Street.
  •   Lane closures and shifts in Gregson Street between Pettigrew Street and Chapel Hill Street.

Bicycle Lane and Sidewalk impacts will occur as follows:

• Dedicated bike lanes in Chapel Hill Street between Gregson and Pettigrew streets will be removed as part of roadway lane shifts.
• Varying sidewalk on the north and south sides of Chapel Hill Street between Gregson and Pettigrew streets will be closed to accommodate waterline installation.
• The sidewalk on the west side of Duke Street between Yancey Street and Chapel Hill Street will have temporary closures to accommodate waterline installation.

Saturday – Sunday August 14-15, 2021:

• No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of August 16, 2021:

• Duke Street between Yancey Street / NC-147 and Pettigrew Street will have lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.
  •   Lane shifts in Duke Street between Yancey and Chapel Hill streets using temporary pavement markings are implemented.
  •   Lane shifts with flaggers or temporary detours will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in the Duke / Yancey and Duke / Jackson intersections and at waterline connection locations.
  •   Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts.
  •   The sidewalk on the west side of Duke Street between Yancey Street and Chapel Hill Street will have temporary closures to accommodate waterline installation.
  •   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
  •   Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
  •   No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
• Chapel Hill Street between Gregson Street and Willard Street will have lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.
  •   Lane shifts in Chapel Hill Street between Gregson and Willard streets using temporary pavement markings are implemented.
  •   Lane shifts with flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections and at waterline connection locations.
  •   Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts.
  •   The sidewalk on the south side of Chapel Hill Street between Willard and Gregson streets will be closed to accommodate waterline installation.
  •   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
  •   Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
  •   No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
• Gregson Street between Pettigrew Street and Chapel Hill Street will have lane closures while work is taking place near the Chapel Hill Street / Gregson Street intersection.
  •   Lane shifts in Gregson Street between Pettigrew and Chapel Hill streets will be implemented between 9 AM and 4 PM.
  •   Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts.
  •   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
  •   Planned work hours in Gregson Street are 9 AM to 4 PM.
  •   No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.

Saturday – Sunday August 21-22, 2021:

• No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of August 23, 2021:

• Duke Street between Yancey Street / NC-147 and Pettigrew Street will have lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.

  •   No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
• Chapel Hill Street between Gregson Street and Pettigrew Street will have updated lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.
  •   Updated lane shifts in Chapel Hill Street between Gregson and Willard streets using temporary pavement markings will be implemented.
  •   Night work between 10 PM and 6 AM will take place near the Chapel Hill Street / Duke Street intersection.  A detour for Chapel Hill Street will be implemented during nighttime hours.
  •   Lane shifts with flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections and at waterline connection locations.
  •   Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts.
