The City Clerk’s Office Presents the Monthly Board Member Spotlight:
Tammie Hall, Raleigh- Durham Airport Authority
1. Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?
I would encourage someone to apply because it is morally impactful. To be of service to a community that is as warm and inviting as Durham is a no-brainer. The responsibility of service is huge but the greater picture of being a truly committed servant is more rewarding than imaginable.
2. What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?
It is extremely rewarding to know that the service provided on the airport board is of huge value to the thousands of passengers that pass through RDU airport. To play a small role in ensuring the experience of visiting the airport as an arriving passenger and/or departing passenger is pleasant and memorable is rewarding.
3. What is your favorite part about living in Durham?
Initially, I chose to mark my stake in Durham because of the rich history of support for black businesses. I recall reading about Black Wall Street in Ebony Magazine while working on Capitol Hill. Now, 20 years later, my kids have matriculated through public schools, I’ve found Durham to be the best place for me and more importantly, the things that matter: diverse populations, best institutions of higher learning, best hospitals, nice areas to dine and beautiful lakes.
