American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement – Phase 1 Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:
- Week of 12/27:
- Lane closures and shifts in Memorial Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street.
- Lane closures and shifts in Peabody Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street.
- Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in project area for sanitary sewer investigations, sewer rehabilitation, and pavement restoration.
- Week of 1/3:
- Lane closures and shifts in Memorial Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street.
- Lane closures and shifts in Peabody Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street.
- Lane closures and shifts in Gregson Street between Chapel Hill Street and Jackson Street.
- Isolated lane closures and traffic shifts in project area for sanitary sewer investigations, sewer rehabilitation, and pavement restoration.
Bicycle Lane and Sidewalk impacts will occur as follows:
- Portions of the sidewalk on the south side of Memorial Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street will have temporary closures to accommodate waterline installation.
- Portions of the sidewalk on the west side of Gregson Street between Chapel Hill Street and Jackson Street will have temporary closures to accommodate waterline installation.
Friday – Monday December 24-27, 2021:
- No work will take place on Friday through Monday.
Week of December 28, 2021:
- Memorial Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street will have lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.
- Eastbound traffic on Memorial Street will be maintained at all times. Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts.
- Lane shifts with flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections and at waterline connection locations.
- The sidewalk on the south side of Memorial Street between Gregson and Duke streets will be closed to accommodate waterline installation.
- Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
- Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
- Planned water service interruptions will be coordinated at least 7 days in advance.
- Peabody Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street will have lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.
- Traffic control signs and markings will be used for the lane closures and shifts, including at the Gregson / Peabody and Duke / Peabody intersections.
- Lane shifts with flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections and at waterline connection locations.
- Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
- Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
- No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
- Isolated lane closures and shifts lasting several hours will be required in the project area to accommodate sanitary sewer investigations, sewer rehabilitation, and pavement restoration.
- Traffic control signs and markings will be used for all traffic detours.
- Sanitary sewer repairs, lining, and dye testing will take place in the project area. Notices will be distributed to affected customers prior to work taking place.
- Some work will occur during evening hours, including along Memorial Street between Gregson and Duke streets.
Friday – Sunday December 31, 2021 – January 2, 2022:
- No work will take place on Friday through Sunday.
Week of January 3, 2022:
- Memorial Street between Gregson Street and Duke Street will have lane closures and traffic shifts to accommodate waterline installation.

- Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
- No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.
