Vickie Henderson, 69, has lived in her house on Wellons Drive for 23 years. When a co-worker told her there was a program through Habitat for Humanity providing home improvements for senior citizens who qualified, she immediately applied. After she was accepted, she looked forward to having her windows repaired, but there was more in store. When the contractors arrived, they also recognized the need for a new roof, and proceeded to complete both jobs, allowing Henderson to enjoy her home for years to come. “They were top notch and did a beautiful job,” she said. Henderson originally tried to go through her homeowner’s insurance with no success. Without the program funded by Forever Home, Durham she would not have been able to afford the repairs. She paid the goodwill forward by telling her neighbors and friends at church about the Habitat program.
“We look out for each other. It’s a great opportunity to improve the property.” - Vickie Henderson
